Post-Doctoral Fellow/Research Associate: integrated surface plasmon resonance biosensors (2 year appointment, immediate start)
We seek an outstanding post-doctoral researcher or research associate to join a large team that is developing advanced optical biosensors for high-throughput protein profiling. The candidate will be responsible for the implementation of integrated micro-optical surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors. This research forms part of a collaboration between four separate laboratories in Engineering and Medicine at McGill University and at Sherbrooke University, and unites experts in photonics, microfluidics, biochemistry and protein profiling.
Major activities
Design of integrated micro-optical SPR system, incorporating diffractive and refractive micro-optics
Coordination of system fabrication in local microfabrication facility, followed by system assembly
Characterization and test
Collaboration with researchers in microfluidics and protein profiling to deliver complete system for field trials

McGill University, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Montreal, Quebec, CanadaPhD position : measurement of nanometer-sized features by electronmagnetic scattering analysis.
The research project is related to the measurement of the nanometer-sized features that are produced in the optical lithographic process steps during the production of the newest- and futuregeneration silicon devices. The measurement and control of the actual 45-nanometer features and the future smaller ones ask for fast and reliable optical methods that are based on the far-field measurement of the scattered light over a broad range of wavelengths. An inverse electromagnetic scattering model should allow the reconstruction of the scattering features with the required nanometer accuracy. The project focuses on both the theoretical and experimental aspects of the scattering.
TUD, Netherlands2 PhD Students
2 PhD students to work on the following projects :
Project 1 comprises fabrication and characterization of an optical microsystem based on electro-wetting. This optical system will allow both lateral positioning and tuning of the focal length of liquid micro-lenses.
Project 2 comprises design, fabrication and characterization of a membrane-based tunable achromatic optical system. The system may be used as a tunable lens or for introducing controlled aberrations to a imaging optical system.
The Laboratory for Micro-Optics in the Department of Microsystems Engineering ( IMTEK)Project engineer in materials research
The Flanders Materials Centre (FLAMAC) was founded by three leading companies with important research and development activities in Flanders (Agfa, Umicore and Arcelor) together with Agoria Vlaanderen.
Flamac’s objective is to become a competence centre in "High Throughput Methodologies" to support research for the materials industry. This way, innovative research for new materials and formulations, their properties and applications will be accelerated and broadened. Flamac will develop and apply combinatorial experimentation methods and pragmatic modeling techniques to that purpose. It wants to offer a service in collaborative, multi-disciplinary research between industry, universities and research centers. Current research programs and additional information about FLAMAC can be found by visiting our web site: www.flamac.be.
In order to strengthen our competence we are looking for a motivated (M/F)

Development engineer optics medical display systems
You are part of the technology innovation team. You are responsible for the optical design of our medical display systems i.e. LCD displays, CCFL and LED backlights, and photometric and colorimetric sensors.
Designing new backlights that meet the high requirements (light output, uniformity and backlight thickness) is one of your challenges. You continuously look for
improving the optical quality of the displays e.g. by changing the optical stack (diffusers, polarizers, compensation foils, ) or adding optical elements such as
neutral density filters, AG/AR coatings, protective glass, You strive for a stable luminance and a consistent color. You prototype new algorithms and ideas by designing the appropriate software programs, mainly in a C++ windows environment.
You design, develop and verify your part of the design. The existing expertise in the company is a source of inspiration, but out of the box thinking is required for solving the complex visualization problems.
You closely follow evolutions in your field of expertise e.g. by contacts with LCD manufacturers. You work in a team and share experiences with co-developers.
State-of-the-art tools will be at your disposal.
