Description
VTT Electronics, in Oulu, is located at the technology park and the University of Oulu campus area. The research facilities in the VTT Electronics include state-of-the-art clean rooms (MicroModule Centre), 3D design and modelling software, optics characterisation equipment and optics and mechanical workshops. The R&D processes, concerning research and development of electronics, computer software and optoelectronics, are certified according to the ISO 9001 standard.
At VTT Electronics, 70 of its staff members are experts in optics and optoelectronics. The main goal of the Optoelectronics Research Area is to assist companies in utilising the technologies of modern optics and optoelectronics. Our research is carried out in close collaboration with Finnish and international research organisations. Our core competences include optical design and modelling, sensors and instruments, advanced materials and packaging technologies. Designing optic and photonic modules and instruments to a ready-for-production stage is an essential part of our services.
VTT Electronics is currently running and coordinating three nationally funded projects in the area of optics and optoelectronics: Cost-efficient photonic packaging, Optical interconnects, and Printable optics and electronics. Our main contribution to NEMO is to provide advanced integration and packaging facilities, including Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics (LTCC) process line, device alignment, assembly and bonding equipment, hermetic sealing and encapsulation facilities, thin film coating and patterning equipment, glass workshop, mechanical workshop and PICO Roll-to-Roll Research facility. These form part of the facilities of the NEMO "Centre of Hybrid Integration and Packaging". In addition, our material tailoring expertise as well as fabrication and characterization facilities will be used in the "Centre of Prototyping, Mastering and Replication". For the "Centre of Modelling and Design" especially the FDTD software and modelling capabilities, in general, will be very useful.
