Description

Koç University is a private, non-profit institution, founded in 1993 and located in Istanbul, Turkey. The University is supported by the financial resources of the Vehbi Koç Foundation and is committed to the pursuit of excellence in both teaching and research. In October 2000 Koç University moved to its permanent campus, which sprawls over a sixty-two acre site and has about 2,500 students. Engineering faculty was established in 2000. Optoelectronics Research Centre (OERC) is an interdisciplinary centre established to foster collaborative research efforts between the Science and Engineering faculty with interest in optics and photonics. The centre currently has 5 faculty members, 1 senior researcher, 1 post-doctoral researcher, and about 10 graduate students. The graduate programs started recently and the graduate student basis is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. The faculty members of the centre are all internationally recognized experts and have several collaborative research projects with the industry.
Research laboratories within OERC are equipped with state-of-the-art test and measurement instrumentation and design tools. Current research areas are opto-mechanical system modelling and design, infrared laser development, infrared micro-optics development, optoelectronic material characterization, micro-structures for sensing, and micro-optical and MEMS components and system development. OERC is therefore well positioned to contribute to the "Centre for Modelling and Design". and "Centre for Measurement and Instrumentation" of NEMO. In addition, OERC will be key contributor to "Micro-optical MEMS", "Semiconductor micro-optics", and "Micro-optical structures for sensing" scientific workpackages.
